OS THE LABELS OF PRODUCT TESTED ON NON-HUMAN ANIMALS

ANALYSIS FROM THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO INFORMATION

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the information as citizen rights, considering the content provided on product labels regarding the performance of tests and experiments on non-human animals. To support this study, we used the deductive method with bibliographic survey and study of legislation and jurisprudence. The specific objectives sought were (i) to approach the fundamental rights of consumers to information and education; (ii) to analyze the legal treatment given to products tested or experimented on animals; and (iii) to examine the accomplishment of consumer information and education rights in the face of product labels tested or experimented on animals. It was concluded that it is necessary to complement the information on the labels of products not tested on animals, as well as an improvement of consumer education for the correct understanding of this information. In addition, it is essential to create a national standard guaranteeing the right to information of the consumer in relation to products that are tested on animals.
